I had the pleasure of interviewing the fabulous Felicia, Founder of Hey Yoga Face. Felicia discovered face yoga in 2015 at the age of 38. She was amazed at the fact we have 57 muscles in the face and neck that need to be toned like the rest of the muscles in our body to keep fit and healthy. Face yoga helped her from the inside out and after seeing and feeling the benefits, she knew she had to share this with others. With over 20 years of working as a hairstylist, and a side business making jewelry, she has always had a passion for helping others feel good about themselves from the inside out and face yoga took this passion to the next level. She was Certified in 2016 and Hey Yoga Face was born. She has since pursued her passion and developed a holistic method to maintain our inner and outer selves which include facial exercise, facial massage, combined with meditation for full rejuvenation of face and soul.

I connected with Felicia earlier this year (February 2020) where we attended a meditation course together to be certified meditation teachers. Felicia has a beautiful soul and the most calming voice I have ever heard (like an angel) we instantly connected over our interests and I am so excited to follow Felicia on her amazing journey.

1) What does connection mean to you?

To me, connection means feeling in tune with yourself, someone or something which can then take us to even higher vibrations of connection.

2) How do you ensure you stay connected to others, to the world at large, and more importantly with yourself?

This is an ongoing and evolving journey. So far I have discovered that just being aware and acknowledging the ebb and flow of my emotions, the good ones AND the not so good ones, helps me to not only clear blockages but also to know myself fully. This in turn keeps me open to possibilities, synchronicities, other frequencies and vibrations from people, nature, and the Universe, thus ensuring I live in a constant state of connection to my deepest self and all things.

3) Do you have a morning or evening ritual? (if so please share it)

Every morning for the past 17 years I have started my day with downing a glass of water then making a to-go coffee for my dog walk. Our walks last just over an hour, this to me is an active meditation, time for me to set the intention of my day, I let feelings come and go, I breathe, I take in Mother Nature's gifts that surround me. All so incredibly soothing yet invigorating and inspiring. I come home, eat breakfast, make a tea and so begins the rest of my day. I am grateful to end the workday with another dog walk. My rituals rotate and vary in the evenings depending on how the day has gone. If someone reading this is not sure about rituals, here is a beautiful definition that I read, "Rituals are tools that give us the freedom to take responsibility for the direction and purpose of our lives. Our task is to seize and shape this freedom—consciously, deliberately, and joyfully". I adore this definition.

4) In your life, what plays a role in positively impacting your wellbeing? Would you consider tea to be apart of this?

For me, time with loved ones and friends, a walk, a run, yoga for my body and face, meditation all have a positive impact on my wellbeing. YES!!! I absolutely consider tea plays a huge role here. I enjoy a morning and early afternoon coffee but in between and after it is just copious amounts of herbal tea for me. Not only do I feel calm when sipping on a tea, I strongly believe herbal teas to be some of the healthiest things we can drink. With all their antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins herbal teas help our immune system,  help fight disease and oxidative stress, and more. I take a big interest in the fact that herbal tea has been shown to slow down the aging process as they can prevent free radical damage and reduce the aging of cells in the body. This all impacts my wellbeing.

5) When it comes to self-care what are some of your top tips?

Self-care is so different for everyone with such a broad spectrum...for one person it is quiet mediation, for another, it is dancing in their kitchen to loud music...both are on my list at all times...LOL.  My 2 top tips would be: 1. Stop saying you have no time for self-care and 2. Find what it is that makes YOU feel YOU, happy, peaceful, alive, and connected to your deepest self and make that a part of your daily life, your rituals. Some general tips: keep hydrated, that would include drinking more tea, get active, eat antioxidant-rich foods, get out into nature and have a digital detox as often as possible. Allow yourself to disconnect from work, your phone, other people so that you can reconnect with yourself! Hmm, maybe that is the simple answer: Allow Yourself...

6) And just for fun…which is your favourite Spiral Tea blend?

I have just ordered the Zulu Strength Spiral Tea. I am a keen drinker of rooibos tea and am SO excited to try Spiral Tea's blend of rooibos with, buchu and honeybush. All such powerful, antioxidant-rich and immune-boosting, disease-fighting, ingredients which help with our wellbeing. I love being mindful over a hot cuppa and always make a big pot, let it cool and drink throughout the day, great and tasty way to keep hydrated and healthy!! Also incredible over ice after a long run. Hurry up and get here ZULU!!
